Heimr languages

Knowledge Level:
3 - Very common, noble born children are taught this during classes.

Heimr knows many languages and dialects. If two random people would where to meet each other there is a large change they would have a hard time communicating.

Two languages are the most commonly spoken. Low merchant and high merchant (also called "Northern trade" and "Southeren trade"). Although most of the peasantry only know a single native language bound to their race (and only the local dialect to boot) most people know at least a few basic words in either one of the two common languages. People that travel around often probably know either one or both common languages as do people whose job it is to communicate with outsiders. People of noble birth or equivalents often learn multiple languages; usually at least one of the common languages.

Northern Trade

Main article: Northern Trade (language)

Northern Trade is a language most common in the northern parts of Midgard and the southern parts of Asgard. In Midgard it is often also the language spoken amongst families in the privacy of their own home. But in Asgard it is usually only meant to communicate with outsiders, not amongst Asgardians themselves.

In game the language is represented by the British English language.

Southern Trade

Main article: Southern Trade (language)

Southern Trade is a language most common in the southern parts of Midgard and the northern parts of Southern Heimr. In Midgard it is often also the language spoken amongst families in the privacy of their own home. But in Utgard it is usually only meant to communicate with outsiders, not amongst Utgardians themselves.

In game the language is represented by the Dutch language.

Native languages

Main article: Native languages

Almost all races in Heimr still have an active language. This is often the first language a child learns and sometimes the only they will ever learn.

Rare and dead languages

Some languages and dialects are so old that they are long forgotten and can only be found in old scrolls and tomes or silently and secretly whispered in dungeons of elusive cults. There are also two languages that are only used by angels and daemons respectively and twisted versions of languages that are spoken by spirits and ancestors in strange dimensions.
