Asgardian Lightning Beast

Like the Thunder Lizard, this is a rather remarkable reptillian that prefers swamplike enviroments. Sadly, the creatures namesake is also the cause of its steady decline in number, als its unique horns make a prized bounty.

The Lightning Beast it among one of the larger living species of lizards, growing to an average length of 2 to 3 metres and weighing around 160 kilograms. They carry an long rim of shard-like scales on their backs, reaching from the neck till the tip of the tail, which they use to attract mates and charge their bodies. Their scaly hides vary from bluish green to red and brown. Some scholars claim their large size is explained by the Lightning Beast's low metabolic rate, while others say there may be magic involved. As a result of their size, these lizards tend to dominate the ecosystems in which they live. The creature is carnivorous and will mostly hunt and ambush prey including other reptiles, birds, and mammals up to twice their size.

The creature features two elongated, brightly coloured horns which extend from its upper jaw, just above the nostrils. By rasping its big. shardlike scales together, the creature is able to generate a considerable electric charge which manifests itself from these two horns. The discharge results in a distinct ozone smell and cracking, thunder-like bang. In moist enviroments, the charge is often able to jolt over a distance of a few metres, killing small animals or stunning larger prey.

The horns of a Lightning Beast are prized materials for wands and staffs, as the unique bone-like material collides not only lightning, but also various forms of elemental magic.
