Homarid

The Homarid are species of semi-intelligent sea creatures, vaguely representing large man-lobsters. Ranging up to two meters, they erect themselves on their six hindlegs, using the tail as support and their large pincers as primitive manipulators. They have a hard protective exoskeleton and, like regular lobsters, Homarid must molt in order to grow, leaving them vulnerable during this time. During the molting process, they may experience a change in color.

Their antenna are extremely sensitive, making up for their poor eyesight. Homarid, like lobsters and spiders, have blue blood due to the presence of haemocyanin, which contains copper instead of iron. They are omnivores, eating everything from fish to crabs and seaweeds.

Homarid live on the rocky, sandy and muddy bottoms of the Western Asgardian shore, though they are known to crawl onto land as well. Asgardian scholars were thrilled to discover that particular Homarid form tribe-like groups and use primitive tools to hunt and defend their territories. These tools are often crude in nature, ranging from pointy whale-bones to primitive nets.

The Homarid seem to have little to no interest in inland territory, and appeared indifferent towards Asgardian researchers. It was discovered that they communicate by distinct clicks and hisses, not unlike Merfolk . Attempts to communicate with the Homarid were undertaken, and it was even suggested that these primitives could perhaps be trained as special Naval shock-troops. With the eruption of the Asgardian Civil War, however, all research was ceased and much of its records lost.

Nowadays, the Homarid population runs largely unchecked.

Following several magical experiments, Asgardian Mages have bound several dozens of Homarid to their will. Chained by magical necklaces, these primitive creatures are used as shock troops onboard a few chosen Navy vessels. Promising results might involve the drafting of more of these sea-creatures.
